TO THE ALACHUA POST:

I would like to correct several statements made in the article appearing in the Alachua Post titled "Concerns Grow Regarding Protection of Mill Sink" submitted over the name of Cindy Butler. First, I have never worked at Shands, part time or full time. Second, I have never spoken with Ms. Butler on the phone. Third, her quote attributed to me "leave it to the experts" was inaccurate. In fact, the statements that I made were as follows: "If and/or when a proposal is presented by Wal Mart or any other developer, the environmental impacts would be reviewed very closely, not only by the City but other applicable agencies as well. Safety of our drinking water is a concern we all share". I also stated "We will have to rely on the experts to obtain facts and data for the appropriate decisions to be based".

Thank You.
Jean Calderwood, Mayor
City of Alachua
