PUTREFACTION?

PUTREFACTION?

Peter Harsany, D.Sc

We are living in an epoch of corruption. I do not refer to the big and famous cases, to the biggest crooks with the highest possible connection, such as in the Enron case. There are many cases of corruption to be weeded out in our small Florida world. Most would consider the Florida Department of Agriculture to be the center of such corruption.

It is doubtful that everyone there is lily innocent, but the DOA is basically only the executioner of large scale incorrectness, beside being the manufacturer of lies.

Many millions of taxpayers dollars are being squandered. They claim to be doing that for the sake of Florida`s economy. All this is called "citrus canker eradication program", a source of corruption. Especially since they claim to be spending millions in order to save a 9 billion dollar industry which does not even exist (it is less than 1 billion). Practically 90% of this industry is unaffected by canker. Only about 10% could use some help in the way of prevention. A very small fraction of the squandered millions.

This entire matter calls out for a well investigated study. A study to investigate the use of the squandered millions of dollars.

1 - Why has a non-Floridian company been granted the monopoly of killing citrus trees, already collecting millions for this? Are for it kick-backs paid?

2 - Why was Wal-Mart given monopoly to redeem vouchers for killed trees? Who, if anyone, is getting kick-backs? There have been claims that they contributed in a big way to Jeb Bush`s re-election.

3 - Who started the lie that Florida has a 9 billion dollar citrus industry? Who, if anyone, is profiting from this?

4 - Why is the DOA using taxpayers` money to hire expensive private lawyers when they have a staff of attorneys in the Department? Special interest to certain individuals?

5 - The Constitution stipulates clearly when activities such as the eradication ("police power") can be used. None of the prescribed conditions exist. Who, if anybody, is profiting in the breaking of the Constitution?

6 - The Constitution orders full and just compensation. Who, if anyone, is profiting in the denying of the Constitution`s order?

7 - Who fabricated the lie that every healthy tree within a 1900 ft. radius of an infected tree is worthless and must be killed? (Referring to a debates experiment by Dr.Gottwald). Who profits?

8 - Who has the capacity to influence otherwise honest legislators to vote for a law known to be based on untrue statements? Some people point to grove owner legislators.

It would appear that someone must have magic powers over the legislators. Are contributions for fundraising a role?

I do not wish to list all the unjust. However, one of the greatest absurdity is that uneducated, recently unemployed laborers are acting as judges, as inspectors. They make decisions whether to kill or save a tree.

Here is an example of how the system works:

A South Florida reader reported that her neighbor apparently needed more space in his garden and "self diagnosed" his trees to have canker. He called in the executioners who cut down the trees free of charge, at taxpayers` expense.

A special benefit to the neighbors: now every tree in a 1900 ft radius will have to be killed.
