Stop Animal Experiments Now

Stop Animal Experiments Now

Karen Orr

Animal researchers clipped hair from beagle puppies, wrapped them in kerosene-soaked gauze and set fire to the gauze. Kittens are blinded by animal researchers who sewed their eyelids shut, placed them in a special holder and injected horseradish peroxidase into their brains.

In animal research laboratories, horses, donkeys, pigs, monkeys, sheep, rabbits and many other animals can be electrocuted, surgically mutilated, exposed to radiation, burned, scalded, deliberately wounded, exposed to nerve gas and infected with deadly diseases in experiments. For what?
Animal experiments are a medical and scientific fraud. Animal research cannot be extrapolated to humans due to species differences.

Not only are animal experiments an intolerable obscenity but they are so dangerously misleading as to be a major threat to human health. Animal tested drugs are the fourth largest cause of death in America. The notoriously dangerous drugs Thalidomide and DES were tested in animals and released, for example. People died by the tens of thousands as a result.

It`s estimated that, just in the United States, over 100 million animals of all kinds are tortured to death every year in animal research factories which operate hidden from public view in universities, hospitals, chemical and pharmaceutical companies, cosmetic and tobacco companies, countless other corporations such as General Motors (in car crash experiments), and by NASA and the military.

Not only is human health being systematically damaged by endless numbers of grotesque experiments but so is our environment. The massive production and widespread use of pesticides and countless other chemicals found "safe" based on animal tests contribute to the relentless pollution of land, rivers, and oceans, the consequent poisoning of food and water supplies, the destruction of the earth's protective ozone layer, and many other threats that are jeopardizing the very survival of life on the planet.

Horrible chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons possessed by an ever-increasing number of countries were developed by vivisectors and "tested" on animals. Conventional weapons of all sorts were also created in vivisectionist laboratories, where animals are routinely used as surrogates for man in warlike situations.

Animal experimentation is an unspeakable cruelty that damages the environment and human health yet continues simply because it is highly profitable for universities, private foundations and businesses.

Most Americans would be disgusted to learn that they are paying for much of this horror with their tax money when it could go to valid scientific research such as in vitro and genetic research, clinical studies, epidemiology, post marketing drug surveillance, computer imaging, and other technologies that can protect health and save lives.

It`s imperative to end all animal experiments without delay.
