March 22nd Evening Event at Florida Museum of Natural History

For kids of all ages!

Thursday evening, March 22nd, 2007, 5:30-9:00PM, the Museum of Natural History is partnering with the UF Geology Department, and the Gainesville Gem and Mineral Society, in presenting Museum Nights- Can You Dig It? Friday March 23rd is an Alachua County School holiday so this will be a delightful event for all family members.

Come see fascinating displays of specimen rocks, minerals, gems, fossils, antique cameos and Chinese Scholar Stones (gongshi stones). Children can go mining for gems. There will be demonstrations of gem cutting, gem cabbing, and faceting. Educational exhibits about plate tectonics, paleomagnetism, and fluorescent minerals will also be available, along with popular science lectures. Films will be shown highlighting seafloor exploration, and North Florida Springs. Samples of seafloor materials will accompany the film. Exciting specimen rocks from Florida, Tibet, China and other parts of the world will be featured. And there will be more geological surprises.
