ALACHUA BIG BOX ALERT 12 Zoning Variances for a Lowe`s big box store will be approved on Monday night`s Board of Adjustment Agenda Meeting begins at 7pm at Alachua City Hall
There has been no previous public discussion about this development, or the impact it may have on the community. It is troubling that the first public hearing on this development (a quasi-judicial hearing) is being held in order to grant the developer zoning variances. Before taking this step, why isn`t the City Commission scheduling a workshop where the public can be fully informed about the scope of this development and its potential impact on the community? Regardless of whether one believes a Lowe`s big box store is an appropriate development for this location, the citizens and taxpayers of Alachua have a right to know what ALL our options are before approving a project of this size in the center of Alachua.
Democratic Talk Radio announces their annual Hero & Villain of the Year Award for 2007. Former Senator John Edwards was selected as the winner of the Hero Award for standing against excessive corporate influence in American politics and government. President George W. Bush was selected as the 2007 Villain of the Year for using his veto power as President to thwart the will of the American people on issues ranging from ending the Iraq occupation to providing for the healthcare needs of American children.
"These two important political figures stand at polar opposites when it comes to corporate control over the everyday lives of American citizens," stated co-host Stephen Crockett. "Edwards speaks about giving the power over government back to the average guy. Bush is all about serving the international corporations and preserving the nearly absolute control exercised by the wealthiest of the Super Wealthy over the political agenda in America. The difference is like day and night."

Bronson Road Christian Academy
Mon, Dec 3rd 2007 Announcements
Parents in the Newberry/Bronson area will soon have the opportunity to send their children to a private, Christian school right in their own neighborhood. Bronson Road Christian Academy, a ministry of Bronson Road Baptist Church, will open in the fall of 2008. The Academy will be open to PreK through 12th grade children and is currently accepting applications. The school will offer an accredited curriculum along with a variety of additional subjects such as bible study, art, music, life skills and more. Children will be given the opportunity to learn in the style and at the pace that suits each individual child, making learning enjoyable. The goal of Bronson Road Christian Academy will be to provide a place for children to excel academically and spiritually and to provide education driven by biblical principles.
At $3,000 per year, the Academy offers one the lowest tuition rates in the area. Additionally, they plan to accept scholarships. More information on the type of scholarships being accepted and how to apply for them will be made available in the very near future. It is their desire that everyone have the opportunity to offer their children the best education possible, as well as the chance to learn in a safe, nurturing environment. They will offer after school care and hope to offer some type of summer program as well.
